This lecture will cover the development of Chinese poetry and analyse the stylistic features of ancient Chinese poems: neat antithesis in form, conciseness of language and cadence in rhythm. A famous short poem “A Tranquil Night” composed by a romantic poet Li Bai will be taught as a sample to show how ancient Chinese poets expressed their nostalgia in sheer 20 simple Chinese words.
