湖北大学地处国家中部地区中心城市、湖北省省会——武汉市。学校是湖北省人民政府与教育部共建的省属重点综合性大学,也是国家“中西部高校基础能力建设工程”高校、湖北省“国内一流大学建设高校”,入选“创建全国文明校园先进学校”。学科专业涵盖哲、经、法、教、文、史、理、工、农、医、管、艺等12个学科门类。其中,材料科学、化学、工程学3个学科进入ESI国际学科排名全球前1%,材料科学和化学2个学科入选U.S.News世界最佳学科,纳米科学与技术、材料科学与工程、能源科学与工程、化学和生物工程5个学科入选ARWU(软科)世界一流学科,跻身世界高水平学科行列。材料科学与化学、中国语言文学与哲学文化、生物学入选湖北省“国内一流学科建设学科”。
湖北大学拥有89年的办学历史,学校现有教师1500人,其中正、副教授928人。现有在校普通全日制本专科生1.9万余人,博士、硕士研究生6000余人。学校坚持开放办学,不断推进对外交流与合作,国内外影响力和竞争力不断提升。与40多个国家和地区的150多所高校、科研机构建立了学术交流、人才培养与科研合作关系,常年互派专家学者访问、讲学,互派学生进修和攻读学位。先后与巴西圣保罗州立大学、圣多美和普林西比大学合作建立孔子学院,与波兰雅盖隆学院合作建立孔子课堂。其中,成立于2008年的巴西圣保罗州立大学孔子学院,是巴西第一所孔子学院,先后三次荣获“先进孔子学院”称号(2010年、2012年、2016年),并成为2016年全球13所“试点文化孔子学院”之一。
Hubei University, located in Wuhan, capital city of Central China’s Hubei Province, is a key comprehensive university jointly administered by Hubei Provincial Government and China’s Ministry of Education. The university covers arts, history, philosophy, science, engineering, economics, law, management, education, agriculture and medicine, with the disciplines of Material Science, Chemistry and Engineering ranking top 1% in the world ESI, Material Science and Chemistry ranking best World disciplines in US News, Nano science and Technology, Material Science and Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, Chemistry and Biological Engineering ranking the world's top disciplines in ARWU (Soft Science), and Material Science and Chemistry, Chinese Language and Literature, Philosophical Culture, and Biology ranking the "Domestic top disciplines" of Hubei Province.
With a history of eighty-nine years, it attracts more than 1,500 devoted staff members, including 928 professors and associate professors. Its full-time student enrollment amounts to more than 25,000, including more than 6,000 graduate students and doctoral candidates. Hubei University has set up academic exchange and cooperation programs with about 150 universities and research institutes in 40 countries and regions. It has co-established Confucius Institutes with Sao Paulo State University in Brazil and University of Sao Tome and Principe respectively, and Confucius Classroom with Jagiellonian College in Poland. Inaugurated in 2008, the Confucius Institute at Sao Paulo State University (Unesp CI) is the first Confucius Institute in Brazil. It has won the ‘Confucius Institute of the Year’ Award three times (2010, 2012, 2016) and became one of the 13‘Pilot Cultural Confucius Institutes’ in 2016. It is now the largest Confucius Institute in Brazil.
