南开大学是教育部直属重点综合性大学，是敬爱的周恩来总理的母校，由严修、张伯苓秉承教育救国理念创办，肇始于1904年，成立于1919年。南开大学坚持“允公允能，日新月异”的校训。

南开大学是国家“211工程”和“985工程”重点建设的综合性研究型大学。2017年9月，入选国家42所世界一流大学建设高校，为36所A类高校之一。

2015年9月，新校区建成启用后，初步形成了八里台校区、津南校区、泰达学院“一校三区”办学格局。南开大学占地445.19万平方米，校舍建筑总面积197.90万平方米。

有专任教师2162人。其中，博士生导师822人、硕士生导师770人，教授864人、副教授840人。现有全日制在校学生28557人，其中本科生16372人，硕士研究生8322人，博士研究生3863人。

学校具备培养学士、硕士和博士的完整教育体系，有专业学院26个，学科门类覆盖文、史、哲、经、管、法、理、工、农、医、教、艺等。有本科专业92个（其中国家级特色专业18个），硕士学位授权一级学科11个，硕士专业学位授权点27个，博士学位授权一级学科31个，不在一级学科覆盖下的二级博士点1个，博士后科研流动站28个。

全国第四轮学科评估显示，南开参评的35个学科中，有5个学科进入前5%，14个学科进入前10%。近五年，学校立项国家社会科学基金重大项目50项，位居全国高校第五。

南开大学有着广泛的国际影响，与320多所国际知名大学和国际学术机构建立了合作与交流关系；拥有专兼职外国专家400余人，以及来自114个国家和地区的2000余名留学生在校学习。

A key multidisciplinary and research-oriented university directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Nankai University is also the alma mater of our beloved late Premier Zhou Enlai. Founded in 1919 by the famous patriotic educators Zhang Boling and Yan Xiu, Nankai University is in accordance with its motto of dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability and aspiration for daily progress.

Nankai University is one of the comprehensive universities with the widest range of disciplines. On September 2017, the university was selected to the list of 42 universities and colleges that would participate in “National Double First-Class” Initiative as one of the 36 A-level universities in China.

From September 2015, Nankai University occupies an area of 4,451,900m², and the total construction area of the building is 1,979,000m². Besides its main campus located in Balitai, Nankai University also has campuses in Jinnan District and TEDA College in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area.

Among the 2,162 faculty members, there are 822 doctoral supervisors, 770 master's supervisors, 864 professors and 840 associate professors.  Currently, the university has a total enrollment of 28,557 students, including 16,372 undergraduate students, 8,322 master's candidates, 3,863 doctoral candidates.

 Nankai University has a fully-fledged education system for producing undergraduates, postgraduates on master's and doctoral programs and post-doctoral researchers. The university has 26 academic colleges, together with the Graduate School, the School for Continuing Education, the Advanced Vocational School, the Modern Distance Education School, and categories covering literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, teaching and art. Nankai University offers 92 undergraduate specialties (including 18 national characteristic specialties), 28 Post-Doctoral research stations and 31 authorized primary Doctoral specialties. 

In the fourth round of national assessments, 5 of the 35 disciplines Nankai participated in the evaluation were in the top 5%, 14 in the top 10%. In the past five years, Nankai University has been in charge of 50 major programs of the National Social Science Foundation of China, ranking the fifth among Chinese universities. 

Nankai University has developed broad international communications by establishing exchange and collaborative relationships with more than 320 international universities and academic institutions. Nankai University also has more than 400 full-time and part-time foreign experts, and more than 2000 international students from 114 countries and regions.
