华侨大学是中央统战部直属,由中央统战部、教育部、福建省人民政府共同建设的普通高等学校。

1960年经周恩来总理批准,学校创办于福建泉州,廖承志为首任校长。2003年在教育部首批本科教学工作水平评估中获评优秀等级。2018年入选福建省“双一流”建设高校。

学校坚持立德树人,大力培养具有创新精神、实践能力、国际视野与社会责任感的高素质人才。累计培养各类人才20多万名,其中5万多名分布在港澳台及海外各地,成为促进中外交流合作的友好使者。现有全日制普通本科生25700人、研究生4338人,有来自港澳台地区和80多个国家的学生6140人,是全国境外学生最多的高校之一。


Huaqiao University (HQU) is a comprehensive university, directly under the United Front Work Department (UFWD) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and jointly constructed by the UFWD of CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People’s Republic of China and the Fujian Provincial People's Government. It is the National Base for Chinese Language Teaching, the National Base for Cultural Quality Education of College Students, the National Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform and the National Demonstration University for Teacher Evaluation Reform.HQU was established in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, with the approval of former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai in 1960. The first president was Liao Chengzhi, one of the state leaders.  In 2003, HQU achieved "Excellence" in MOE’s first Undergraduate Teaching Performance Assessment. In 2018, the university was selected into the construction plan of first-class universities and first-class disciplines (also named as Double First-Class Initiative) of Fujian Province.

Educating students both morally and intellectually, HQU aims at producing high-quality talent with innovative spirit, practical ability, global vision and social responsibility. Over 200,000 students of all levels have graduated from the university since its establishment, among which around 50,000 currently live overseas, mainly distributed in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and countries or regions along the Maritime Silk Road, and are committed to promoting friendship, communication and cooperation between China and those countries. HQU has 25,700 full-time undergraduates and 4,338 graduates, among which 6,140 are students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and over 80 countries and regions.
