This winter camp focuses on the theme of "Contemporary China" and is open to high school and university students as well as master and doctoral students who have a certain level of Chinese language and engineering background and wish to come to China for further study. The course design features the teaching of scientific and technical Chinese at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), and includes four main sections: courses on scientific and technical Chinese, courses on Chinese phonetics and writing, courses on the face of contemporary China and on appreciation of Chinese culture. Office of International Affairs, School of Materials Science & Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, and international students are jointly responsible for the teaching. The program plans to improve the Chinese language proficiency of the winter camp participants while providing them with a window to understand the social, cultural, and technological development of contemporary China from multiple perspectives, further stimulating their enthusiasm and motivation to learn Chinese, and paving the foundation for further study in China.
