Shanxi folk houses show different characteristics due to different natural and geographical conditions. This class mainly focuses on the types and layout characteristics of folk houses in three different regions: Central Shanxi, northern Shanxi and southern Shanxi.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the commerce was developed in the middle of Shanxi Province, and most of the folk houses took the form of business courtyard and family courtyard. Not only the courtyard layout was regular and symmetrical, but also the architectural details were colorful; Since ancient times, northern Shanxi has been a battleground for strategists. There are many customs and fortresses, which have multiple functions of defense and life. Another major feature of northern Shanxi is that it is vast and sparsely populated. In order to make the houses fully accept the sunshine, most of the courtyards are very large and square; The folk houses in southern Shanxi are characterized by civil and brick wood structures. Most of the houses of large families are quadrangles, which are surrounded by buildings and bungalows. They are exquisite in workmanship and magnificent.
