This course aims at offering intellectual enrichment through the reading of classical Chinese poems. Simple illustration will be given to the pronunciation, pause, accentuation, pace and intonation in poem reading. Practical skills are demonstrated with reading one Five-syllabus Poem of Four Lines (五言绝句), Ascending the Stork Tower (《登鹳雀楼》), and one Seven-syllabus Poem of Four Lines (七言绝句), A Remote View of the Lushan Waterfall (《望庐山瀑布》). The attendees are expected to gain a richer understanding of the contextual and artistic depths of the poems and enhance their linguistic skills and knowledge of Chinese.
