Clocks were highly favored by many emperors in the history of China, so there are many outstanding clocks throughout Beijing’s Imperial palace. The ancient craftsman were introduced to clocks by foreign entities, before then they would use methods such as water clocks and sundials. Since the introduction of clocks, many emperors started developing their own timepieces, not only to improve their technology but also to learn about western technology.Today we will look at the famous bronze clock of the Qing dynasty made by a famous English watchmaker that demonstrates the technological and flourishing era of China during the reign of emperor Qianlong.
