China is a multi-ethnic, multilingual and multi-cultural country, with 56 ethnic groups and more than 80 languages. As the common language of the Han nation, Chinese is only one of the many. Modern Chinese is divided into Mandarin and dialects. Mandarin, as the official language, is an officially standard version of Chinese. This course aims to give students some basic knowledge and general distribution of Chinese languages and dialects by introducing the languages of representative ethnic minorities and the representative dialects of each dialect area.
