Tianjin is a provincial-level administrative region in China, an economic center, an international comprehensive transportation hub, and a historical and cultural city in the Bohai Rim region. Since ancient times, Tianjin has emerged as a result of water transportation. After it became a trading port in 1860, Western powers set up concessions here . Tianjin became the frontier of opening up in northern China and the base of modern Chinese Westernization Movement. After more than 600 years, Tianjin has created a unique urban style that combines Chinese and Western styles and compatibility between the ancient and the modern. This course will take the form that the teacher takes students to start from Tianjin University to experience Tianjin’s past and present city scenery through visiting the Five Avenue Scenic Area, Jiefang Bridge, and Porcelain Houses, and experience Tianjin’s customs in the Synagogue, Tianjin Concert Hall, and Minyuan Stadium.
