Tai Chi Eight Methods and Five Steps is an introductory Taijiquan routine created by the China General Administration of Sport. It consists of eight techniques: Peng (warding off), Lv (rolling back)，Ji (pressing)，An (pushing)，Cai (pulling down), Lie (splitting), Zhou (elbowing), Kao (body stroke), and five steps: Jin (advancing), Tui (retreating), Gu (shifting left), Pan (shifting right), and Ding (central equilibrium), also known as the “Thirteen Tai Chi Postures”. The eight methods and five steps embody the core techniques of of Taijiquan in each genre, but are also simple enough to be the best choice for beginners.
