This lecture introduces Chinese calligraphy, which is a unique form of art for Chinese characters in aesthetics, burdening abundant historical and cultural connotation. With four treasures of the study as tools, aesthetic calligraphic works integrate structures of Chinese characters with different ways of presentation perfectly. Chinese Calligraphy is renowned as “poems without words”, “dancing without actions”, “paintings without patterns”, “music without rhythms”. This lecture introduces basic knowledge and writing skills of Chinese calligraphy, including its history, its tools, correct ways of holding a brush and of writing basic strokes.
